Do I need a doctor’s referral to come to physiotherapy?

  • No referral is necessary for a private physiotherapy treatment. Unless you are being treated for a WCB or ICBC claim.
  • If you are covered by extended health, patients are advised to check the details of your benefits as some plans may require a physician’s referral to get treatment costs reimbursed.

What should I bring to my appointment?

  • MSP Patients: Please bring your Carecard number
  • WCB or ICBC Patients: Please bring your Carecard, claim number, adjustor information, and doctor’s referral
  • Extended Health: Please bring your extended health card and the primary holder’s name and date of birth
  • We ask our patients to wear clothing appropriate to the type and area of injury. Shorts and a t-shirt or tank top is usually sufficient. We also have gowns and shorts available at the clinic for your convenience.
  • Please bring any test reports or other medical documentation you feel may be helpful in your treatment planning.

How many treatments will I need?

  • It depends on the condition as well as how acute or chronic your pathology may be. Your physiotherapist will provide you with this information during your initial visit and will be able to estimate the length of time required for full recovery.

How long will my appointment take?

  • Please arrive 10 minutes early for your initial appointment to complete necessary paperwork. All our treatment sessions are 30-minutes in duration. All appointments are one-on-one hands on time with your physiotherapist. The number of sessions you’ll need depends on your condition. During the initial visit your therapist will assess you, determine your treatment plan and discuss this with you after the assessment.

Do I get my treatment covered?

  • To determine whether you are covered for physiotherapy under your extended health plan, please contact your insurer.

Do you do direct billing for extended health benefits?

  • Semiahmoo Physiotherapy is pleased to offer online direct billing for physiotherapy to a number of extended health carriers.

Will ICBC or WCB cover my therapy?

  • They can. Injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident, or while at work, require an assessment from a physician to determine if the injuries would benefit from physiotherapy. If so, your physician will write a referral to physiotherapy and you may be approved for physiotherapy through an ICBC or WCB claim.

Cancellation and No Show Policy
